Turmeric is a widely known spice with a long history of use. It contains bioactive compounds called curcuminoids, the main one being curcumin which is known for its antioxidant properties.
Interest in turmeric (Curcuma Longa) is constantly increasing, as it seems to be associated with an ever-increasing number of beneficial properties, most of which are attributed to the curcumin content.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Committee for Medicinal Products of Herbal Origin (HMPC) have approved the use of turmeric as a traditional herbal digestive aid in cases of indigestion, bloating and biliary disorders.
