Liver protection & detoxification
Silymarin is the active ingredient of the fruit of the Silybum marianum plant (commonly known as thistle).
This plant is mainly found in the Mediterranean and was widely used by botanists in the United Kingdom in the 16th century.
Herbal active substances include 3 isomers called Silybin, Silidanin and Silicristin. These substances belong to flavonoligrans, a strong group of herbal active ingredients. Of these 3 substances, Silybin is considered more potent.
Milk Thistle is one of the herbs with the most references to scientific literature. There are over 300 scientific studies on its chemical composition and its mechanisms of action.
Its main actions are the strengthening and protection of liver function and the regeneration of its cells, while its detoxifying properties are particularly important.
It takes 8,5 grams of the thistle to make 286 milligrams of extract, a quantity contained in each Lamberts Milk Thistle tablet, which uses a titrated extract of mature fruit of the herb to give a guaranteed level of 200 milligrams of silynamine per tablet.
